10 Things To Do First In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Table of Contents
ToggleWhen you’re done with the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom, you might be thinking, “What now?” Here are some things you need to do as soon as possible.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom adds to what Breath of the Wild did, making it an even bigger, better, and more difficult game to play. During your adventure, there are a lot of things to find, places to see, and things to do in this changed version of Hyrule.
But you might feel pretty lost once you leave the Great Sky Island and no longer have everything you need. You could have just arrived in Hyrule or spent a few hours looking around, and you still wouldn’t know what to do – in the best way. Here are some things you should do when you first start Tears of the Kingdom.
Load Up On Zonai Devices Right Away

At the start of Tears of the Kingdom, if you’re a good traveler, you’ll have found two Zonai Device Dispensers on the Great Sky Island. These are the big gacha machines where you can put in Zonai Charges to get a bunch of Zonai Devices that are already wrapped up and easy to carry around.
You should already have a nice little collection of Zonai Charges after beating a bunch of the constructs on the Great Sky Island. You can go ahead and put most of them in the machines. You won’t get much from these two machines. You can see what they give you by hovering over the icon on the map after you use them. However, you’ll need a lot of these simple tools for your early building experiments and Korok puzzles. You’ll find more tools and get more Zonai Charges as the game goes on, so don’t be afraid to stock up for the long run.
Buy The Hylian Set From Lookout Landing

When you go to Lookout Landing for the first time, you’ll see a small shop in the area where someone is selling things. This will get bigger as the game goes on, but for now, you should focus on getting the Hylian set of clothes, which includes the Hylian hood, the Hylian tunic, and the Hylian pants.
There are many outfits and pieces of armor in Tears of the Kingdom, but you probably only have the Archaic Tunic and Archaic Legwear right now. Even though it’s new and stylish, it won’t protect you very well, and Tears of the Kingdom can be tough. The Hylian set will give you a big boost to your armor stat and will be cheap to improve in the future. It will cost you a lot of rupees, so if you don’t have enough, look in holes for gems and other things you can sell.
Find Hestu And Upgrade Your Inventory

Early on, if you listen to Purah’s advice, she will tell you to take the road west from Lookout Landing to the Rito Village. This is because it’s the easiest to get to and the best place to start. More importantly, there are some early-game quests and people to meet, like Hestu. Hestu is a big Korok who will let you add more items to your collection if you give him Korok Seeds. You can find him on a hill near Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower, west of Hyrule Ridge.
You’ll want to find him and do this as soon as possible for a couple of reasons. First of all, even though Fuse makes weapons last longer, you’ll still go through them often, so being able to take more is always important. Second, once you’ve talked to him and gotten some upgrades, he’ll move to the courtyard of Lookout Landing, making him easy to reach when you have more Korok Seeds. One more reason? Hestu is loved by everyone.
Tame A Horse, Any Horse

Hyrule is full of horses. You can find them right outside Lookout Landing, at the first Stables you see, or out in the middle of nowhere when you get lost. There are different kinds, and some are harder to train than others and need more time and patience. Despite all of this, though, you should just get any horse you can as soon as you can.
You can sign up more than one horse at a stable, so don’t worry about finding your dream horse just yet. For now, all you need is a reliable horse that can get you across the broken country much faster than Link can walk. You might get off the horse every ten seconds to look at something just off the road, but you can be sure that having a horse will make everything much easier.
Make Your Way To Hateno Village And Kakariko Village

You could go straight to Rito Village or go in a different way, but the Necluda region is another place you should check out. In Breath of the Wild, the roads to Hateno Village and Kakariko Village were just past the Dueling Peaks in the southeast corner of Hyrule Field.
Not only is it fun to go see what has changed, but you can find new quests, services, and lore at any point in your trip, so you might as well do it earlier. In Tears of the Kingdom, more and more people from all over Hyrule are going to both of the villages, so go in the same way and see what all the fuss is about in each place.
Lower Links Hylian Hood

Once you’ve finished the main questline in Hateno Village, you can talk to Cece in her clothes shop. She not only sells the unique clothes you find in Tears of the Kingdom in case you lose them, but she also gives you access to a feature that isn’t shown right away.
Link can buy the Hylian Hood from either Lookout Landing or Cece’s shop. If Link talks to Cece while wearing the hood, she will offer to take it off. If he agrees, Link will put on the Hylian Hood with the hood pulled down, just like in the game’s beginning. It’s a small thing that you might or might not want, but it’s important to know about it early on in the game. Just put on the hood and talk to Cece again to change it back.
Buy Arrows Every Chance You Get, Please
Okay, this one will make sense at some point, but if you deal with it early on, it will be less of a hassle later on. If you use your bow a lot, whether to solve tasks, fight, or just turn on some devices, you will need arrows. But arrows seem to run out a lot faster than they used to, which could be because there are more ways to use them or because Tears of the Kingdom is harder.
You should buy as many arrows as you can every time you pass a shop or see Beedle on the road. They can be expensive, so you may only be able to buy a few at a time at first, but it will help so much when you really need them.
Explore The Depths Under Hyrule Field

If you do the first task Josha gives you at Lookout Landing, you’ll know about the Chasm outside in Hyrule Field and the scary Depths below. Even though this is a scary place to go into when you don’t know what to expect, you should look around, at least in that area.
Tears of the Kingdom knows that this is probably the first area you’ll visit when you drop into the Depths. It’s not easy, but it’s not hard either. To stay away from the sadness, just throw a bunch of Lightbloom Seeds everywhere. You can find some pretty good gear down here, which is very helpful this early in Happy Wheels, but it’s still a scary place to explore.
Upgrade Your Energy Cells ASAP, Just A Little Bit

When you use Zonai Devices, that little battery that pops up and goes away is very helpful, but it won’t last long enough to let you make your wild and wonderful designs. Talking to the Crystal Refinery structure outside the Nachoyah Shrine on the Great Sky Island or the one outside the north gate of Lookout Landing is all it takes to upgrade it, but the cost of resources will catch you off guard.
This can be a bit of a grind, but that’s even more reason to get started right away. To get another Energy Cell, you need 100 Crystalized Charges. You can find these or use Zonaite at a Forge Construct (there is one on the Great Sky Island). You might have to go to the Depths to get some Zonaite, but the extra Energy Cells will save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
Return To The Lookout Landing Shelter After You’ve Helped The First Region

After you’ve played Tears of the Kingdom for a while, you’ll have helped one of the areas, whether it was the Rito Village or another one you went to first. After you’ve done this, you’ll want to go back to Lookout Landing anyway, but while you’re there, you should go back down into the haven under the courtyard.
There will be a new quest, a new service, and a new place to look around. It’s hard, but the riches you find can help you a lot in your next adventures. Go back down there as soon as you can and see what’s going on.
